On 20th March 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Rev. Dominic Kimengich the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar. He was ordained on 22nd May 2010 at St. Augustine Catholic Cathedral grounds in Lodwar. On 5th March 2011, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him the 3rd Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar.

Bishop Dominic Kimengich was installed the 3rd Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar on 30th March 2011 at St. Augustine Catholic Cathedral grounds in Lodwar. Bishop Dominic becomes the first African bishop to serve in Lodwar after his predecessors, Bishop Patrick Joseph Harrington (2000-2011) and Bishop John Christopher Mahon (1968-2000).
